There is not enough I can say about Karpathos. I traveled all around the world looking for a place to make my permanent home and Cabo San Lucas looked like the sure fire winner. In 2005 while visiting Karpathos for a friend’s wedding I realized my search was completed. I had no reason to continue wandering the world: I would return to the island that was my home more than 2 decades ago.

It is both Rugged and Tranquil. Serene and Cosmopolitan. Mountains jutting out of the sea, pine forests and wild thyme bushes scenting the air.  My search for the perfect beach included adventures in Playa Del Carmen, St. Thomas, Maui, Aruba, Jamaica, Columbia, Barbados, Martinique, Bahamas, Grand Cayman.. and so many more,  equally ravishing, yet none equalled the flavor of Karpathos.   I was delighted to discover the beaches, mountains, vegetation and people in Karpathos held what I desired most.  The sea surrounding this island is calm and ever so inviting. The beaches have a different personality all over the island ranging from dramatic cliffs to sandy shores.  Even the fishing is fun!

Plans have been circulating about enlarging the 2 marinas. A golf course is in the works, and a new 5 star hotel. New roads, shops, festivals, clubs, music, and an ever enlarging airport terminal lure visitors from all around the world.  While in Karpathos I have encountered archeologists, an erudite physicist, a plethora of Europeans on holiday, shepherds, farmers, authors, wind surfers, fishermen, a sheik and his harem....  Adventures abound! All the sights and sounds are splendid!

The other side of the spectrum exists as well;  Solitude. Peace and quiet. You can spend days in quiet isolation watching the waves lap the coastline, the breeze ruffling through the olive trees, and the multicolored sunsets over the horizon dipping into the crystal blue sea.  I need both.

An ache continually throbs in my heart for this place......  Visit us and discover our paradise.
